June 2007

Dear Parent,

Have you heard? This is the summer to CATCH the BEAT at your Library! The Avon Public Library will be hopping and bopping all summer long starting June 25th. This music-themed reading program encourages children to read during the summer months. Research studies have shown that students who do not practice reading skills during the summer actually lose reading abilities they worked so hard to acquire during the school year. Students who don’t read over the summer are less prepared for school in the fall.

CATCH the BEAT at your Library will have kids kicking up their heels about great books, fun activities and a  line up of special events that The Avon Public Library has scheduled just for them. Children will also receive incentives for reaching reading goals.

  • Story Hours for ages 18 months through 5 years
  • Arts and Crafts for ages 6 through 10.
  • Games and activity sheets
  • “Avon Idol” music talent show
  • End of the summer reading awards program and performance

We hope that you will encourage your child to read this summer and allow us to provide a variety of reading choices and additional support. We hope to see you and your child here this summer at your library.

Sincerely,

The Staff of the Avon Public Library
